Cluj-Napoca is a vibrant student hub with plenty to offer, especially for those prioritizing health and well-being. Jip, an Erasmus student from the Netherlands, shares her experience of maintaining a healthy lifestyle in this charming city. From canteens to hiking trails, here’s what she loves most about Cluj.
🍴 Affordable and Healthy Food Options
For affordable meals, Jip and her friends often eat at the canteen close to the dorms. “The canteen close to the dorms is a place where we often eat,” she says, making it a convenient and budget-friendly option for students.
When it comes to fresh produce, Jip highlights Uproar Legume-Fructe on Calea Monitor, a small store near the dorms. “We have some stores close to the dorms, for example, Uproar Legume-Fructe on the Calea Monitor. But if we want to do big groceries, we go to Kaufland or Lidl,” she explains.
🏞️ Best Spots for Exercise
Jip enjoys staying active in Cluj and loves the variety of exercise options available. Her favorite activities include:
- Swimming pools, which are “cheap with a student card.”
- Running along the river and through the park, which she describes as a highlight: “You can go for a run along the river and through the park. Love that.”
- Free gym access for dorm residents: “There is also a gym that you can use for free if you live in the dorms.”
💰 Student Discounts for Fitness Activities
While Jip primarily uses the swimming pools with a student discount, she appreciates the events organized by ESN (Erasmus Student Network). “Sometimes ESN organizes a day where we can try a new sport,” she shares, adding an element of fun and discovery to staying active.
To manage stress and maintain a healthy balance, Jip recommends making the most of Cluj’s safe and welcoming atmosphere. “There are also a lot of really nice café places where you can drink really good coffees while studying,” she says. For mental health, ESN offers therapy sessions at a low cost, providing a valuable resource for students. “The city feels also very safe, so you can go for a mental health walk at any time,” she adds.
🌟 What Makes Cluj-Napoca Unique?
What stands out to Jip about Cluj is the abundance of nature and green spaces. “There are a lot of parks, and it’s very easy to take the bus to get out of the city and go for a hike,” she explains. “I’m really not used to so much nature, and it’s really nice.”
Jip’s experience showcases the incredible resources available to students in Cluj-Napoca. Whether you’re enjoying a run by the river, exploring a local market, or sipping coffee in a cozy café, Cluj provides the perfect setting for a healthy and balanced student life.
